IRS Points to an Increase in Early Tax Filings for the 2024 Season

Prepare for the 2024 Filing Season with SFE Virtual Education: Tax Refunds: Exceptions, Posting & Liabilities on March 19

Earlier this month, the Internal Revenue Service released new data on its Free File Program. According to the data, the Program experienced a year-over-year increase in filings of nearly 10 percent, through the latter part of February. 943,000 taxpayers had filed tax returns this tax season through the Program compared to 860,000 during the same period last year. Overall, through the end of February, the IRS had processed 28.9 million refunds worth $92.9 billion. That's a significant number of transactions and dollars that have flowed through financial institutions to date - and the season has really only just begun. That's why it is important to prepare now for the influx of refunds your institutions will surely see (and probably have seen) and any challenges that may arise as a result.

SFE's Tax Refunds: Exceptions, Posting & Liabilities, taking place on March 19, from 9-10:30 AM CT, will provide financial institutions with all the latest when it comes to tax refunds. The training will cover updates on rules and regulations surrounding the posting and handling of tax refunds and exceptions, RDFI warranties and liabilities, and an overview of current tax fraud scams, and the ways to combat and respond to them.

It will provide your institution with the information and tools you need to get ahead and stay ahead this tax season.
