Opening Keynote: Charting the Fintech Horizon: Navigating Partnerships, Compliance, and Advocacy in the Payments Landscape

Over the last fifteen years, fintech innovators have been transforming the way Americans bank, lend, and transact, leveling the playing field for millions of consumers and small businesses. Once thought to be at odds with each other, responsible fintech companies and innovative banks are poised to drive the future of financial services innovation as they break down the traditional barriers to capital and reach families and businesses traditionally left behind. While market dynamics have changed for the better, regulators and policymakers still have opportunities to improve. Across the federal and state landscape, fintech needs improved supervisory expectations and, where relevant, new regulatory frameworks. Join Phil Goldfeder, CEO of the American Fintech Council (AFC), as he shares his experience on the frontlines of the fintech regulatory conversation and learn what regulators and policymakers should be doing to provide clear expectations on the processes that fintech companies and banks should pursue as it relates to managing risk, ensuring compliance, and serving consumers effectively.

Consumer Financial Data in 2024: Ownership, Protection and New Regulations

2024 promises more developments in U.S. consumer financial data rights and protections at both federal and state levels. This session will look at the CFPB's proposed rule on personal financial data rights under Dodd-Frank Act Section 1033, which is expected to be finalized in the fall of 2024, and how your organization may be impacted. We'll also examine the FTC's Safeguards Rule, the recent update to the data breach notification requirements, and the possibility of a comprehensive federal privacy law. Couple these national developments with the recent enactment of state privacy laws and managing consumer financial privacy programs becomes more complex. We will delve into the interaction between state privacy laws and entity-level versus data-level exemptions for financial institutions. How should financial institutions, fintechs, and their customers navigate this rapidly changing landscape? Attendees will put their data rights knowledge to the test through interactive questions and gain an understanding of data rights and security requirements.
