ABC 13

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Investigators said that a Houston postal worker has been arrested after allegedly stealing a check worth nearly $44,000.

In July 2024, a city official from Woodbranch Village contacted the Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable's Office to report a check fraud, investigators said.

Officials stated that the city, north of New Caney, sent a check totaling $44,000 to a contractor for a project within the area. It was later discovered that the check had been altered and deposited into an unknown account after being stolen in transit, according to investigators.

The Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable said a lengthy investigation was conducted, and the suspect was identified as 40-year-old Bridgette Ragland of Houston.

Officials obtained an arrest warrant for the charge of theft, classified as a third-degree felony.

Ragland was later arrested at the post office where she worked in northwest Houston on Thursday, October 9, officials said.
