Mail carrier accused of stealing Menards rebates enters guilty plea

WGN9

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A South Dakota mail carrier has admitted to taking receipts and rebate slips bound for Menards, a Midwest-based home improvement store, to cash in for himself.

Court documents say Nicholas Travers, of Pierre, kept an eye out for mail being sent to the company’s rebate center in Elk Mound, Wisconsin.

Menards often offers mail-in rebates on items purchased in its stores. Customers are required to mail a form with their rebate receipt to a P.O. box in Wisconsin. The retailer then sends the customer a credit check, “folded with the dollar amount concealed.”
