Fake cashier’s checks used to steal $288K worth of property: MALTB

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Agents with the Mississippi Agriculture and Livestock Theft Bureau (MALTB) assisted in several agricultural theft recoveries, which totaled more than $288,000 in recovered property.

On April 30, 2025, agents said a tractor was stolen with a fraudulent cashier’s check in Rankin County, and they were contacted by the fraud victim.

FBI operation targets gangs, violent crime in Mississippi

The investigation into the stolen tractor led to the recovery of additional stolen property. According to agents, the suspects purchased trucks, cars, tractors and ATV/UTV vehicles from Facebook Marketplace with fraudulent cashier checks in at least three states. They said arrests have been made in this ongoing investigation with additional arrests forthcoming.
