Theft of $609,609 state check causes auditors to urge ‘additional controls’ in treasurer’s office

Legislative auditors recommend the state "implement additional controls" after a $600,000 check was stolen and cashed last year.
The stolen check was made public in a recent report from Arkansas Legislative Audit, which published its annual financial report for the state treasurer's office in May, finding the treasurer's office had issued a warrant for $609,609 that was stolen.
"While the Treasurer of State had some controls in place, they were not sufficient," the report stated.
