‘Penguin bandit’ charged after series of bank robberies in Denver

DENVER (KDVR) — In January, police were looking for a bank robbery suspect based on his walk. On Friday, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado announced the charges against the suspected “penguin bandit.”
Samuel Richard Ruthstrom, 41, was charged in connection with five bank robberies around Denver, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado.
Police said Ruthstrom used the same techniques for the robberies. He would provide a demand note to a teller while verbally demanding money, then flee from each scene on foot.
