ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A former Anchorage USPS mail carrier could spend several decades behind bars after being charged with federal fraud and theft offenses.

According to the Department of Law, authorities in Missouri arrested 25-year-old Nha Xiong on Wednesday, weeks after a federal grand jury indicted Xiong on charges of fraud and theft.

In a press release, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Alaska wrote that a federal district court judge could sentence the former Postal Service employee to up to 30 years in prison. The charges include one count of theft of mail by a postal employee and one count of bank fraud. The fraud charge comes after authorities say Xiong deposited six fraudulent checks between November and December 2021.

The Attorney’s Office said Xiong would use whiteout to replace names on checks from Northrim Bank, Bank of America, KeyBank and Mt. McKinley Bank with his own.
