NACHA Announces Availability of Healthcare Payments Resources

Executive Summary
NACHA has collaborated with standards bodies and government organizations to facilitate broader healthcare industry adoption of electronic payment and remittance processing through the ACH Network. Information shared with Congress and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in support of this effort, along with documents related to current public policy on healthcare, is available on the NACHA website at http://www.nacha.org/c/HealthcarePaymentsResources.cfm. NACHA will update this page as new information becomes available.

Background
The healthcare industry currently transmits only a small percentage of payments and data electronically. This largely paper-based system accounts for $5 billion in general and administrative costs for healthcare payers.¹

Using the ACH Network to process healthcare transactions and related remittance information could substantially benefit the healthcare industry by streamlining transaction processing and cutting costs. Studies show that transmitting payments and data using integrated automation through a scalable intermediating system like the ACH Network could result in an industry-wide cost reduction of $3.6 billion for payers.²
